One of the things that people seem to want right now, what with all this time at home and not going out anywhere, is different ways to make things more interesting. So, here's an idea for you...How about trying something new in the kitchen?
For some people, this may be your opportunity to delve into the practice of preparing your own food because, before now, your most advanced feat in the kitchen was making a killer PB&J. Others may be pretty comfortable with cooking and food preparation. If that's you, this could be a great time to learn some new recipes.
A common theme I keep hearing from people during this COVID-19 crisis is that they are gaining a lot of weight. Some of this is because they are far less active than they usually are because they can't go anywhere. But for many, it may have a lot to do with what we eat. Either we're eating out of boredom, or we're just snacking all day long on unhealthy, high-Calorie, low-nutrient foods.
What better time to learn how to set yourself up for success by learning some delicious new recipes that are also healthy! Look for some new food items to try that perhaps you haven't tried before. If your salads have always been just iceberg lettuce and maybe a few cherry tomatoes, maybe try adding some kale, sliced strawberries or apples, grilled chicken, almonds, spinach, etc.
You can also try cooking some new things. Look around online and find some healthy recipes that you can make for dinner. I recommend that you find just one recipe that you can start with. Make that recipe maybe a couple of times a week. Do that for several weeks until you start feeling comfortable with it. After a couple of weeks, you should have that recipe down and now it can be a "go-to" meal for you.
Once you've gotten that down, move on to another recipe and do the same thing. Within just a couple of months, you should be able to add to your toolbox and make four or five delicious, healthy meals! And you don't have to stop there! Keep adding to your toolbox as long as you like. Try things that require different types of foods. Also, try things that require different types of cooking. Maybe using an air fryer, baking, a wok, a crock pot, etc. Get used to using different knives, cheese graters, make your own pasta, your own sauces, and even your own smoothies.
This is just another way that you can take control of your health while at the same time, learning new things, expanding your experience and just being able to enjoy your life so much more. You can even start making little alterations to the recipes to give it your own spin as you get better at it. So go out there and find your next "go-to" meal! Feel free to share below anything you find that you enjoy making.
